ROBERT KUBICA IN DTM

05-08-2020

The long-awaited DTM race took place over the weekend at the Belgian Spa track. Usually the German series started with Friday practice. This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, not only has the starting calendar changed, but also the training session has been moved from Friday to Saturday, automatically reducing the time drivers had so far to train before qualifying.

The first step was the well-known Belgian track Spa-Francorchamps, which welcomed the drivers with a wet surface during their morning training. The conditions did not worry the ORLEN Team ART driver, for whom it was an opportunity to show his skills and finish the training session in 4th position. The qualifications took place on a dry surface, which quickly verified the capabilities of the machines and the experience of the drivers. For Robert Kubica, who is a DTM rookie, the qualifying session ended in position 14.

During the start of the first race of the Belgian GP, the PLATINUM ORLEN OIL Ambassador showed a very good starting reaction. Initially, Kubica maintained 14th position, only to jump a level higher in the table after the 5th lap. Pit-stop complications related to the operation of the car's pneumatic jack took 23 seconds, making it impossible for the driver to maintain the position. Finally, Robert Kubica finished his first race at P14.Sunday morning started with qualifying for race two. During 20 minutes (because that's how long it takes to qualify) drivers have to make the fastest lap, which determines the starting position in the race. The ORLEN Team ART driver achieved the 12th starting position, improving times in all sectors.

The beginning of the second race, despite the smooth starting reaction, was slowed down by the blocking of the rear wheels in Kubica's car. The compulsory pit-stop went faster for the team than on the previous day. However, there are still problems with the speed on the straights, which the team will work on to record better results in the next race. The driver of ORLEN Team ART finished the second race on the Belgian Spa-Francorchamps track in 14th place. On August 14-15, next DTM drivers' struggles will take place at the German Lausitzring Sprint track.
